Harem girl....NOT!

A lively procession of Berber percussionists enters our huge, lavish tent....one of dozens of groups we saw that evening....the music and dancing went on for hours....the cuisine was mouth-watering (tagines and cous-cous)....ending outside under a starry sky, with a tumultuous display of rifle fire and horsemanship!

Young Berber dancers wearing their finery (notice the huge amber necklaces).....
Even though our tour only lasted 4 days, I developed a love for Moroccan music and dances (of which there are numerous). Berber tribespeople are resilient, proud, gracious, and artistic...they've never been conquered by any foreign invaders! For an in-depth look at their culture, "Rocky" (as she is affectionately known by her followers) of NYC has a wonderful library on her web site. Please click on the link below....once on her site, click on "Articles" in the menu to the left, then select "Marrakesh Folkfest."
